SCARBORUGH JUNIOR BASKETBALL CLUB

1987 - 2008

The Scarborough Junior Basketball Club was founded in 1987 by Shirley Brewer, Kerry George and Pam McLennen.

The club started playing competition basketball at Perry Lakes with five teams all beautifully turned out in our club colours of blue singlets with white trim, blue shorts for the girls and white shorts for the boys.

From these original five teams the club fielded 24 teams in the 2007 season with our highest representation being 32 teams in 1999.

Over the past twenty years we have had great leadership from our Presidents and a strong committee base with several of the original committee members still very active despite them no longer having children playing basketball.

The club is very proud of the achievement of a permanent training facility and home base at the Karrinyup Sports Centre.  Credit for the facility goes to our then President Mr Chris Tatum and our Patron, Councillor Mr Bill Stewart and the SJBC Committee.   This facility was officially opened on 8th September 2004 and has given the club a real sense of home.

Over the years the club has had many teams participate in Grand Finals and we have a collection of Grand Final winner and Runner-up pennants, as well as Most Valuable Player pennants adorning the entry of the Sports Centre.

Several of our players have gone on to play for the Wildcats, such as C.J. Bruton, Andrew Rice, Simon Blennerhasset, Kyle Tatum and Carmi Olowoyo with many more playing in SBL and Hawks

The strength of the club the in part due to the wonderful people we have had on the committee over the years, of which eight have been made Life Members.  We thank them for their time and commitment to our club.
