About our club
Hello and welcome to the home of the Scarborough Sharks Junior Basketball Club - Founded 1987 - 25 Years Strong !!!
Our club is based in Perth playing through the Perry Lakes Competition. In 2011 we had a record 35 teams competing in the competition at the WA Basketball Centre in Perry Lakes. Our teams train as arranged by the coach on either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights at Karrinyup Sports Centre, 2 Nerita Way (next to Newborough Primary School), Karrinyup.
The Scarborough Junior Basketball Club was founded by Shirley Brewer, Kerry George and Pam McLennen and this year celebrates its 25th year.
The club started playing competition basketball at Perry Lakes with 5 teams growing to 35 teams with 277 registered players in season 2011, our highest representation ever.
Over the past 25 years we have had great leadership from our Presidents and a strong committee base with several of the original committee members still very active despite them no longer having children playing basketball.
The club is very proud of the achievement of a permanent training facility and home base at the Karrinyup Sports Centre. Credit for the facility goes to our then President Mr Chris Tatum and our Patron, Councillor Mr Bill Stewart and the SJBC Committee. The facility was officially opened on 8th September 2004 and has given the club a real sense of home.
Over the years the club has had many teams participate in Grand Finals and we have a collection of Grand Final Winner and Runner-up pennants, as well as Most Valuable Player pennants adorning the entry of the Sports Centre.
Several of our players have gone on to play for the Wildcats, such as C.J. Bruton, Andrew Rice, Simon Blennerhasset, Kyle Tatum and Carmi Olowoyo with many more playing in SBL and for the Perry Lakes Hawks.
The strength of the club is due to the support of parents, coaches, managers and players and the wonderful people we have had on the committee over the years.
The growth of our club is only possible if w continue to have enough volunteers to coach and manage each team. Please consider what contribution you can make so that we can try and meet the player demand at our club.
Here's to a new season !!!
