About

Our club

Community junior basketball in Perth's northern suburbs — welcoming, volunteer-run, and proudly part of the Perry Lakes Hawks Junior Competition since 1987.

Our story

From a few local teams to one of the area's largest clubs

Founded in 1987, the Scarborough Junior Basketball Club — the Sharks — has grown into one of the northern suburbs' biggest junior clubs, with around 400 players across 50 teams each season.

We're a volunteer-run community club competing in the Perry Lakes Hawks Junior Basketball Competition. From under-8s picking up a ball for the first time to under-18s chasing finals, the Sharks welcome players of all abilities. We field boys' and girls' teams across every age group — playing weekend games at Bendat Basketball Centre (Floreat) and Lords Recreation Centre (Subiaco), and training locally at Karrinyup Sports Centre.

Our history

Since 1987

The Scarborough Junior Basketball Club was established in 1987 by Shirley Brewer, Kerry George and Pam McLennen. From just five teams in its first year, the club has grown into one of the largest junior basketball clubs in Perth's northern suburbs.

The club's home base at Karrinyup Sports Centre was officially opened on 8 September 2004, giving the Sharks a real sense of home. The club is proudly run by volunteer parents and continues to welcome new players across every age group.

We play hard and fair, and treat teammates, opponents and officials with respect.

Run by volunteer parents and powered by local families, sponsors and supporters.

How we play

How the season works

The Sharks play in the Winter season of the Perry Lakes Hawks Junior Competition. Here's how a season comes together:

  • Register and pay securely online through PlayHQ
  • Weekly training at Karrinyup Sports Centre
  • Weekend games at Bendat (Floreat) and Lords (Subiaco)
  • Live fixtures, results and ladders on PlayHQ

Girls' basketball

Growing girls' basketball is a real priority for us. We have a small number of girls' teams today, and we're focused on building that number season by season. If you'd love to see more girls playing — or you have ideas to help us grow the program — we'd genuinely like to hear from you.

A child-safe club

The Sharks are committed to a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all juniors. Our volunteers and coaches follow the club's child-safe practices and hold a current Working with Children Check, in line with WA law and the Basketball Australia Child Safeguarding Policy.
